Easily Change Your Username on Reddit or Create a New Account

A quick & easy guide to changing your Reddit handle

Are you ready to ditch your old Reddit username in favor of something that's more you? If you signed up for Reddit using a Google account or Apple ID and received a goofy generic username, it's super easy to change within 30 days of sign-up. If it's been longer than 30 days, or you didn't create your account with Apple or Google, you can't change your name. But don't worry—it's quite easy to create a new Reddit account with the username of your choice! This wikiHow article will walk you through changing your Reddit username on your PC, Mac, Android, iPhone, or iPad.

Things You Should Know

  • You can only change your username if you created your account using your Google account or Apple ID.
  • If it's been longer than 30 days since creating your account through Google or Apple, you won't be able to choose a new username.
  • If you can't change your username, you can easily create a new account using the same email on any platform.

Changing on a Computer

    Click your avatar or username at the top-right corner of Reddit. If you created your Reddit account with a Google account or Apple ID, you can choose a unique username as long as it's been fewer than 30 days since you created your account.[1]
    • If you're not signed in to Reddit, you'll want to do that first.

    Click Profile. You'll see this near the top of the menu.
    • If you qualify to change your username, you'll see a pop-up asking if you'd like to change it now.

    Click Change Username. You'll only see this option if you're still within the 30-day name change period.

    Enter a new username and click Continue. Your username can be as few as 3 characters, but no longer than 23 characters. If your username is not already taken and meets the minimum criteria, you'll be asked if you want to keep your new username.

    • Changing your username will not affect your posting history. All your posts, comments, and karma will now be associated with your new username.

Changing on Mobile

    Tap your profile photo at the top-right corner of the Reddit app. If you're using an Android, iPhone, or iPad, you can select a new username in the mobile app.

    • If you created your account with an Apple ID or Google account and it's been 30 days or less since you signed up, you'll see a pop-up window asking if you'd like to choose a new username.

Creating a New Account on a Computer

    Click your profile photo or username at the top-right corner of Reddit. If you can't change your username, you can create a new Reddit account easily. But first, you'll need to sign out so you can access the login screen.
    • Reddit doesn't limit how many accounts you can have at once.[2]
    • Unlike when using the mobile app, you can only sign in to one Reddit account at a time when you're using a computer.

    Click Log Out. It's at the bottom of the menu. This takes you back to the Reddit home page.

    Click Sign Up. You'll see this button at the top-right corner.

    Follow the on-screen instructions to create your new account. If you'd like to sign up using your email address, enter your email address and click Continue. Otherwise, you can click Continue with Google or Continue with Apple to create your new account quickly.
    • When you create an account with Google or Apple, you'll be assigned a random username to use on Reddit. But don't worry—you'll have 30 days to change it after creating your account.
    • If you have the Reddit mobile app, you can add your new Reddit account in the app. Just tap your profile icon, tap the arrow next to your name, and then tap the logout button to sign out. Then, tap Log in to sign in with your new username.

Creating a New Account on Mobile

    Tap your profile photo at the top-right corner of the Reddit app. If you can't change your username, you can create a new Reddit account easily. You can even keep your existing username and switch between accounts in the mobile app—a trick that isn't possible when you're using a computer.

    Choose whether to log out or add a second account. The option you select here depends on what you want to do, but both options will still get you to the same place:
    • If you don't plan to use your old Reddit username anymore, you can tap the Log Out icon next to your username, which looks like an arrow pointing right toward a bracket.
    • If you want to stay logged in to your old account in addition to creating a new username, you can stay logged in and tap + Add account at the bottom of the menu.

    Select an account creation option. If you'd like to sign up using your email address, enter your email address and click Continue. Otherwise, you can click Continue with Google or Continue with Apple to create your new account quickly.
    • If prompted, tap Continue to log in with your Apple or Google account.
    • If your email address is already associated with a Reddit account, tap + Continue creating account when prompted.

    Follow the on-screen instructions to create your account. Now you'll go through the Reddit sign-up process, which asks you to select a gender, some interests, and more.
    • If you signed up with your email address, you'll be asked to create a new username. If you signed up with a Google or Apple account, you'll be taken directly to the Reddit homepage once signed in.

    Change your username (if using a Google or Apple account). If you just created your new account using your Apple ID or Google username, you can now easily select a custom username instead of the generic one assigned to you:
    • Tap your profile photo at the top-right corner.
    • Tap My profile.
