The Xbox 360 headset allows you to chat with your friends and opponents on Xbox Live. There are several styles of headset available, including a wired headset and two different wireless sets. Connecting these headsets is fairly straightforward, and you can be shouting commands and trash-talking in just a few minutes.

Method 1
Method 1 of 3:

Connecting a Wired Headset

  1. 1
Turn the headset volume all the way down. This will help prevent hearing damage when you first put it on.
  2. 2
Plug the headset into your controller. There is a jack on the bottom of the controller in the center. Plug the headset into this jack.

  3. 3
Put your headset on. When you start playing a game, slowly turn the volume up until it is at a comfortable level.
    • The headset is only for voice chat, no game sound or music will be transferred through the headset.
  4. 4
Troubleshoot a nonworking headset. If the headset doesn't work, it may be faulty or the connection port may be dirty. Ensure that the cables are not frayed, and that there is no dirt on the connector. You can use a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol to clean the port.

There should be a headphone jack in your controller if you're using a headset, but if not, turn up your volume or check the volume in game.
