You can't make an actual working volcano in Minecraft, but you can build a mini mountain that is lopsided. Add and remove blocks until you have the desired shape. If you want to make it look like it is spewing lava, then make a 2-4 block tall tower on top of your "volcano" and pour the lava on top of that top block. It will spread out to cover the block and should run down your whole volcano.

You could use campfires to have the smoke effects. To prevent the fire to extinguish, use any block on the floor as it'll go through the block.

When water touches lava, it doesn’t make obsidian, only if lava touches water. It seems strange but, for example, if you placed a lava bucket in the sea, then that would make obsidian.

Warnings

If you build a hot tub in survival mode, make sure you have a water bucket in case problems arise or the lava burns your character.
