  3. 3
Cut fabric to your desired length and width, allowing for a half-inch seam allowance on all sides. Add an additional two inches in length for "each" pocket, which will be created at both ends of the cover. This should create a long rectangle.
  4. 4
Cut an identical piece of iron-on interfacing and iron it onto the wrong side of the fabric.
  5. 5
Turn over the two short sides of the rectangle twice, to form quarter-inch hemlines. Stitch them in place.
  6. 6
With right sides together, fold over two inches at both ends of the rectangle, to create pockets. Stitch the upper and lower seams of each pocket.
  7. 7
Turn the pockets right side out and iron them flat.
  8. 8
Between the two pockets, turn over the remaining raw edges twice, to form quarter-inch hemlines. Stitch them in place.
  9. 9
Slide the front and back cover of your book into the pockets.

  • Question
Can you define which edge you consider the length and width?

If you place your hand on the book's spine vertically, the length will be from fingertip to heel of hand and the width is from thumb to pinky finger.

What does "turn over twice" mean?

On the two short sides you'll want to fold the fabric once, then fold it again before sewing down the ¼-inch hem. This will keep the cut end of the material under the hem and unlikely to unravel or cause strings.
