How to Record WhatsApp Calls on iPhone or iPad

This wikiHow teaches you how to save a recording of a WhatsApp call, using an iPhone or iPad. Apple's stock Voice Memos app doesn't allow you to capture audio on most iPhones due to Apple's regional legal precautions, but you can use a third-party screen recorder app to capture audio and video in all your calls. Alternatively, you can also use an external device like a computer, a secondary iPhone or a dedicated voice recorder to place your call on speaker, and record it externally.

Using a Screen Recorder

Download and install "Rec Screen Recorder" from the App Store. Search the App Store for this app, and tap the blue GET button to install it on your iPhone or iPad.
- This is a third-party screen recorder that allows you to record audio while recording your screen.
- If you prefer, you can download an alternative like AZ Recorder or Recordera with a quick App Store search.

Open your iPhone or iPad's
Settings. Find and tap the gray gear icon on your home screen or in an app folder to open Settings.

Scroll down and tap
Control Center. This will open your Control Center preferences.

Tap Customize Controls. You can add new tools to your Control Center here.

Tap the green-and-white plus
icon next to "Screen Recording." This option is listed next to a white dot in a red square. This will add a shortcut to your Control Center for all your screen recording options.
- You can activate the Rec screen recorder app from here.

Open WhatsApp Messenger on your iPhone or iPad. The WhatsApp icon looks like a white phone and a speech bubble on a green background. You can find it on your home screen or in an app folder.

Tap the Calls tab at the bottom. This button looks like a phone icon on a navigation bar at the bottom of your screen. It will open a list of all your recent WhatsApp calls.

Swipe up from the bottom of your screen. This will open your Control Center.

Hold down the white dot and circle
icon. You can find it at the bottom of your Control Center. This will open your screen recording options in a pop-up window.

Select the Rec app. This will allow you to use the Rec app to record audio and video on your screen.
- Alternatively, you can select Camera Roll here, and use your iPhone's stock screen recorder, but this feature will not record audio in most phone calls around the world due to Apple's legal precautions.

Tap the gray microphone icon at the bottom. The button will turn red when your microphone is on. This will enable audio recording in your screen recording sessions.

Tap Start Broadcast. This button is at the bottom of the Screen Recording pop-up.
- If you select Camera Roll, this button will say Start Recording.
- You will see a countdown from 3 at the top of the pop-up, and the app will start recording your screen.
- You will see a flashing red dot at the top of the pop-up when recording begins.

Tap anywhere outside the Screen Recording pop-up. This will close the pop-up, and go back to Control Center.

Swipe down from the top of your screen. This will close Control Center.
- You will see a red banner at the top of your screen. This means your screen is currently being recorded.

Make your WhatsApp call. Tap the phone and "+" icon on the top-right, and then the phone icon next to the contact you want to call.
- Your call will be recorded in the background.

Tap the red banner at the top of your screen. When your call is finished, tap the red banner at the top to stop recording.

Tap Stop in the pop-up. When you're prompted to stop broadcasting, tap this button to finish your recording session.
- Your call will be saved to the Rec recording app.

Open the Rec Screen Recorder app on your iPhone or iPad. The Rec icon looks like a white video camera icon in a circle on a red background. Quit WhatsApp, and tap this icon on your home screen to open the Rec app.

Tap Allow. This will allow the Rec app to send you notifications.

Tap SKIP on the bottom-left corner. This will skip the introductory instructions.

Tap the recording you want to view. You can find all your screen recordings here. Just tap any of the listed recordings to view it.

Using Speakerphone with A Second Device

Open a voice recorder app on a secondary device. You can use a computer or a different iPhone or iPad to record your WhatsApp calls from another device.
- If you have a second iPhone or iPad, you can use Apple's stock Voice Memos app on your secondary device, and record your call from the other iPhone or iPad.
- Alternatively, you can use a camera or a dedicated voice recorder to capture audio.

Place your iPhone or iPad next to your recording device. Make sure your iPhone or iPad's speakers are close enough to the other device's microphone to capture the audio.

Open WhatsApp Messenger on your iPhone or iPad. The WhatsApp icon looks like a white phone in a speech bubble on a green background. You can find it on your home screen or in an app folder.

Tap Calls at the bottom. It looks like a phone icon on a navigation bar at the bottom of your screen. This will open your recent WhatsApp calls.

Make a WhatsApp call. Tap the phone and "+" icon on the top-right, and tap the phone icon next to a contact to start a call.

Tap the speaker
icon on the call page. This will switch your call to your iPhone or iPad's speaker.

Start your audio recorder on your second device. Tap, click or press the Record button on your secondary device to start capturing audio. This will record and save your call as a separate audio file to your secondary device.
