You have your eye on a shy girl, but you’re trying to pluck up the courage to talk to her. The good news is that it’s easier than you might think. When you do talk to her, it's important to be mindful of her feelings and avoid pretending to be something you’re not.     Find common interests informally. Connecting based on common interests is engaging and fun, especially if done informally, like going out for lunch, a drink, or coffee. You can reduce the pressure of the shy person by planning activities for the first few times you hang out together.

    Establish eye contact. Glance from time to time at the person you are interested in, yet don’t overdo it. Smile when eyes connect. Feel out the emotional state of the other person to try and make them as comfortable as possible. Initiate the first move. Extend the first introduction and approach the shy person with a smile and a hello. Introduce yourself and start a simple, relaxed conversation. Be patient. During the conversation, give the shy person time to respond. Embrace silence — a meaningful pause can signal thoughtfulness and respect.
