Well, you now have been informed of a FanFiction category that you like. Perhaps it's time that you learned how to read it in addition to learning how to write it. Here, you'll learn how.
Steps
-
1Go to www.fanfiction.net and find the category of stories you like. Some people like television show FanFiction, some people like Harry Potter, some people will read just about anything. Find one category that you really like, first.
-
2Get to know what different styles you like in a category. When you read FanFiction, don't automatically go to the stories with the most reviews. No matter how many reviews a Harry Potter and Ron story has, if you don't like it, it's not worth your time to read it. Learn what stories you like in a specific category.Advertisement
-
3Learn what certain terms mean. "AU" means alternate universe, "Abuse" means that one of the main characters either is abused or abuse is going to be involved, "hurt-comfort" means that one of the characters is hurt and is going to be comforted, or is going to be hurt and comforted. (See the Tips section to a link for more terms).
-
4Follow specific people who have stories written that you like. If they had one that you liked, they might have another.
-
5In categories with less FanFiction, follow specific authors. Usually, if they've posted before, they'll post again.
-
6If you like a specific author but have read all of their stories, look at their favorites list. They may have great recommendations there.

Warnings
- There will be a lot of stories with bad grammar.⧼thumbs_response⧽
- If you truly don't like a story, and you want to leave a review, make sure it's constructive and not just plain mean.⧼thumbs_response⧽
- Learn which terms mean "sex" and avoid them unless you want to read that specific type of story.⧼thumbs_response⧽
- SLASH means that there will be male-to-male sex, or a male-to-male relationship in the story.⧼thumbs_response⧽
- AU stands for Alternate Universe, meaning that the characters will not be acting in-canon (canon is what is actual real). For example, in a Harry Potter AU, Nerville Longbottom might be the one who saved the world (it's been done before). Another example could be a Supernatural AU in which Case, Dean, and Sam are in high school and aren't related/friends at the beginning of the fiction. Starting to make sense?⧼thumbs_response⧽
