  3. 3
Insert a blank row into the sheet. If you created a new sheet or already have a header row, you can skip this step. Otherwise, follow these steps to add a new row at the top of the sheet:
    • Click the number beside the top row in the sheet. This highlights the row.
    • Click the Insert menu.
    • Click Row above. There should now be a blank row at the top of the sheet.
  4. 4
Type your headers into the header row. If you've already given the columns names/headers, you can skip this step. Otherwise, type the title for each column into the blank cell at the top of the data.
  5. 5
Click the number beside the header row. This highlights the row.
  6. 6
    Click the View menu.
  7. 7
    Click Freeze.
  8. 8
Click 1 row. The header row is now frozen, which means it will stay in place as you scroll down the spreadsheet.
    • To turn on the feature that lets you sort and filter data by clicking the column header, click the row number of the header row, click the Data menu, then select Filter. Now you can click the green icon in each header to sort data.
