Have you ever worn lip gloss and had your eyes wandered to the ingredients list? You might think oh my gosh there are so many names that you don't even know. If you can't pronounce a name on an ingredients list then it's definitely not organic and probably a processed product. This article will show you how to make your own organic lip butter balm.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon organic coconut oil
- 1.5 teaspoons organic almond oil
- 2 teaspoons organic mango butter
- 2.5 teaspoons organic soy wax or beeswax (whatever you have on hand or is easy to obtain)
- 1/2 teaspoon organic honey
- 1/8 teaspoon organic fragrance oil (optional) (available at most craft stores or online)
- 1/8 teaspoon old lipstick or lip tar (the addition of this will mean your end product is not entirely organic)
Steps
-
1Put soy or beeswax, mango butter, coconut oil, and almond oil into a Pyrex measuring cup, jug or bowl.[1]
-
2Stir together with a popsicle stick, mixing stick or a spoon. Put it over a pot of medium hot boiling water. Stir some more until melted.[2]Advertisement
-
3Add in the honey. Stir it thoroughly, as honey is not easily soluble with the wax.[3]
-
4Add in a squirt of coloring. (Old lipstick, lip tar, or whatever food coloring you like.) Stir well.
-
5Remove the cup, jug or bowl from the hot water. Add your fragrance oil (this step is optional). Mix it in well.[4]
-
6Pour the mixture into the handy mini containers and let the gloss set for at least an hour.[5]
- To speed up this process you can put your lip gloss into the fridge. Make sure to check on the gloss often for cracking; if you see this, remove it.
-
7Enjoy your new organic lip balm.
