How to Store Curling Irons

Having a place to store your curling iron makes it easy for you to use it when you need to and keep the cord from getting tangled. If your curling iron is hot, you can store it in or on a heat-safe material so you won’t risk burning yourself or any surfaces. Once it’s cooled, you can keep your curling iron in a storage container under your sink, or use a hanging storage option.

Putting Away a Hot Curling Iron

Place heat-safe canisters inside your bathroom drawers. First, use measuring tape to measure the length, width, and height of your bathroom drawer. Then, purchase a heat-safe canister that will fit inside your bathroom drawer.^{[1]

- If the drawer is tall, you may be able to close it. In most cases, you’ll need to keep the drawer open while the curling iron cools inside the canister.

Make a heat-safe wall storage unit with steel flashing and a pipe clamp. First, cut a wooden board about 5 inches (13 cm) in width and length and purchase a piece of steel flashing to fit it. Attach the flashing to the wooden board with a hammer and nails. Then, place a 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) pipe clamp across the middle of the flashing. Use a screw driver and screws to secure the pipe clamp in place.^{[3]

- After using your curling iron, you can simply stick the barrel into the gap between the pipe clamp and flashing to store it.
- If you can’t find a piece of steel flashing to fit the piece of wood, you can cut it down to size with a utility knife or sharp pair of scissors.

Lay your hot curling iron across a rolling pin or wine rack. Attach the wall rolling pin rack or metal wine rack to your bathroom wall. You can then lay your curling iron across the hooks on the rack to store it while it’s still hot, or once it’s cooled.^{[4]

- Rolling pin racks and wine racks are very similar in shape and size and generally work well because the hooks extend out from the wall, so your hot curling iron won’t touch the wall.
- You can also attach 2 metal hooks to your wall and lay the curling iron across the hooks. Just make sure that the hooks extend out far enough so that the hot barrel doesn’t touch the wall.

Make a hanging storage container out of a metal pail. First, attach a hook to your wall. Then, cut a piece of string or twine about 10 inches (25 cm) long. Tie the ends of the string or twine to the holes on either side of the metal pail where the handle attaches to the pail. Then, hang the string on the hook attached to the wall.^{[5]

Install a hair tools storage bracket on your bathroom cabinet or wall. If you have several hair tools you want to store along with your curling iron, getting a hair tools storage bracket may be a good option. These brackets are designed with several compartments that hold a variety of hair tools, including your curling iron, hairbrush, and hair dryer.^{[10]

- While some are made to withstand heat, in most cases, you’ll need to let your curling iron cool before storing it away.
- You can attach most hair tools brackets inside your cabinet door or on your bathroom wall.

Attach a PVC pipe to your bathroom cabinet door. First, purchase a 5 inches (13 cm) piece of PVC pipe with an opening that is slightly larger than the barrel of your curling iron. Then, attach the PVC pipe to the inside of your cabinet door with an adhesive Velcro strip or strong hanging adhesive strips, such as Command strips.^{[12]

- Make sure that the pipe opening is large enough to fit the barrel of your curling iron, but not so wide that the handle and clip fall through. For example, if you have a 1 inch (2.5 cm) barrel curling iron, look for a 1.25 inches (3.2 cm) or 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) PVC pipe.
- You can also get a large PVC pipe connector that can store both your hairdryer and curling iron.
