How to Send WhatsApp Messages from PC

This wikiHow teaches you how to use WhatsApp for Windows or macOS to send messages to your contacts. Have your Android or iPhone handy—you’ll need it to sign into WhatsApp.

Things You Should Know

You'll need WhatsApp on your mobile device to send messages from your computer.
Download WhatsApp in your web browser and log in to your account.
You will need to activate WhatsApp Desktop in your mobile app.

Steps

Go to https://www.whatsapp.com/ in a web browser. As long as you have a WhatsApp account, you can use the desktop app to send messages from your computer.

Click Mac or Windows PC. It’s in the left column.

Click the Download button. It’s the large green button at the bottom of the right column. This will download the installer to your computer.
- You may have to click Save or Save File to complete the download.

Install WhatsApp. Double-click the installer file (it ends with .exe on Windows, and .dmg in macOS), then follow the on-screen instructions to install the application. Once the installation is complete, the app will launch and display a QR code that must be scanned by your phone.

Open WhatsApp on your Android or iPhone. It’s the green and white phone receiver icon typically found on the home screen or in the app drawer (if you’re using an Android).

Open WhatsApp web on your Android or iPhone. The steps are different depending on your phone:
- Android: Tap ⋯ and select WhatsApp Web/Desktop.
- iPhone: Tap Settings, then select WhatsApp Web/Desktop.

Line up the QR code on the computer screen in your phone’s viewfinder. WhatsApp on your phone will automatically detect the code and sign you into WhatsApp on the computer.
- You can put the phone away now if you wish.

Click + in WhatsApp. It’s at the top of WhatsApp, toward the left. A list of your contacts will appear.

Click the contact you want to message. This opens a conversation with that contact in the right panel.

Type your message. You can click the mouse in the typing area at the bottom of the right panel to start typing.
- To add emojis, click the smiling face to the left of the typing area, then click an emoji.

Click the send button. It’s the paper airplane at the bottom-right corner of the window. The message will be delivered to the selected contact.
