Do you have blotchy skin? Hoping to even out the color of your face? If you answered yes to either of these questions, or have reasons of your own, using a face mask can help! There a few ways to make a mask that may help lighten, brighten, or even out your skin tone.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon plain yogurt
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons rosewater
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon gram flour
- 2 tablespoons milk (optional)
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 2 teaspoons rice flour
- 3 tablespoons plain yogurt
Steps
Method 1
Method 1 of 3:
Making a Yogurt and Honey Mask
-
1Find a small bowl. You can also use a cup, mug, or teacup. You will be working in small amounts, so any small container will do.
-
2Put the ingredients into the bowl. You will need 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt, 1 tablespoon of honey, and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice.Advertisement
-
3Stir the ingredients with a spoon or fork. You want to end up with a smooth, creamy consistency. Make sure that everything is blended in together and that there are no streaks.
-
4Spread the mask over your face. Scoop some of the mask up using your fingers, and spread it onto your face. Use your fingers to spread it over your cheeks, forehead, and jaw. Avoid getting too close to sensitive areas, such as the mouth and eyes.
-
5Leave the mask on for 15 minutes. The mask may start to run a little bit. If this happens, lay down on your back, or sit in a chair with your head tilted back.
-
6Rinse the mask off with warm water. Lean over a sink and splash your face with warm water. Gently rub your skin to get the mask off. If your face feels a little bit sticky, use some face wash.
-
7Pat your face dry and apply some moisturizer, if necessary. Honey and yogurt are great at moisturizing skin, but those with sensitive skin may find the lemon juice a little drying. If you happen to have sensitive or dry skin, consider applying some moisturizer.
- Avoid going out into the sun after wearing this mask. Lemon juice makes your skin extra sensitive to sunlight, and makes it easier for you to get sunburned.
- You can use this mask three to four times a week.

Method 2 of 3:
Making a Rosewater and Gram Flour Mask
-
1Find a small bowl or cup. You will be working in small amounts, so any small-volume container will work.
-
2Add the ingredients into the bowl. You will need 2 tablespoons of rosewater, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of gram flour. If you have dry, sensitive skin, you can also add 2 tablespoons of milk.
-
3Stir the ingredients until you get a thick paste. You can use a spoon or fork to do this. If the paste is too thin, add some more flour. If the paste is too thick, add some more rosewater.
-
4Spread the mask over your face. Dip your fingers into the small bowl or cup and scoop some of the mask. Start spreading it across your face. Take care to avoid the sensitive areas around your mouth, nose, and eyes.
-
5Leave the mask on for 15 to 20 minutes. The mask may start to drip down your face during this time, so it might be a good idea to lay down or sit in a chair with your head tilted back.
-
6Rinse the mask off with cool water. Lean over the sink and splash your face with cool water. Gently massage your skin to ease off the mask. If there is any residue, you may have to wash your face with some face wash.
-
7Pat your face dry with a soft towel. You can use this mask up to three times a week.
- Lemon juice makes your skin extra sensitive to the sun. To avoid getting sunburned, stay out of the sun after using this mask.

Method 3
Method 3 of 3:
Making a Turmeric Mask
-
1Find a small bowl for your ingredients. If you can't find a small bowl, you can use a cup or teacup instead.
-
2Pour the ingredients into the bowl. You will need 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, 2 teaspoons rice flour, and 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt.
-
3Stir the ingredients with a spoon or fork. You want to end up with a paste-like consistency. If the mask is too thin and watery, add more flour. If the mask is too dry, add more yogurt.
-
4Consider covering your shoulders with a towel. Turmeric powder is often used in dying fabric. It won't stain your skin, but it may stain your clothes. To keep this from happening, consider draping a towel across your shoulders and securing it with a clip.
-
5Spread the mask over your face. Dip your fingers into the mask, and spread it across your face. Try to avoid your lips, eyes, and eyebrows. Some of the ingredients in this mask are also used in hair removal.
-
6Leave the mask on for three to five minutes. You may want to lie down or sit in a chair with your head tilted back so that the mask doesn't slide off your face.
-
7Rinse the mask off with warm water. Lean over a sink, and splash your face with warm water. Gently massage your skin with your fingers until the mask is rinsed off. If there is any residue, you may need to use some face wash as well.
-
8Splash your face with cool water, then pat it dry. The cool water will help seal and tighten the pores.
