ChatGPT, released in November of 2021, is a free AI chatbot developed by OpenAI which has quickly become a global phenomenon, with capabilities ranging from answering simple questions to writing entire essays. To use ChatGPT, you will need to create an account. This article will show you how.
Steps
Creating a Free Account

1Head to chat.openai.com/auth/login to get started creating a new account.
- You make come across a screen that reads, "ChatGPT is at capacity right now." This just means that too many people are on the site right now, and you'll have to wait a while and try again later.

2Click the Sign up button.Advertisement

3Enter your email address and click on "continue."
- You can also sign up through your Google or Microsoft account. To do so, simply click on the corresponding button located below. Skip to Step 6 of this article after you've finished signing in with Google or Microsoft.

4Create a password and click on "continue." Your password must be at least 8 characters in length.

5Head to your inbox and click on the verification link. ChatGPT will send an email to your inbox. Open the link inside that verifies your email address.
- If you didn't receive the email, click on "resend email" after you've checked you've entered the correct address.

6Enter your first and last names in the boxes and click on "continue."

7Enter your phone number and select "send code." ChatGPT will send you a message for phone verification.
- ChatGPT does not yet support all countries. If you currently have a phone number from a country that is not yet supported, you will not be able to create an account.
- Using virtual phone numbers (VoIPs) to circumvent phone verification if you're in a country that is not supported will not work. ChatGPT is able to recognize VoIPs.

8Enter the 4-digit code that has been sent to your phone and select "continue."

9Complete! You can now start using ChatGPT.

ChatGPT Plus is a paid subscription that gives you faster response speeds, priority access to new features, and availability to ChatGPT even when demand is high. It costs $20 per month.
