So babes, you looking round for how to speak like a Chavette? (We ain't ALL perfect, right?) Well, here you go! It's the best prezzie ever, innit!!!

Steps

  1. 1
Watch programs like The Only Way Is Essex and Educating Essex. Also, try to find any of the 'Diary of a Chav' books by Grace Dent - They are a big help![1]
  2. 2
Start picking it up slowly. Instead of saying 'how are you' to a friend say 'All right' (Should be pronounced Aw rate ) Also, instead of saying someone's name, call them 'babes' or 'bruv' (Works for BOTH genders!)

  3. 3
Every time you are going to say 'isn't it', say 'Innit' and change 'was' for 'were'. This will help to get into the habit of saying it.
  4. 4
Try saying "was like", whenever you would have said, "said". Especially within a monologue : for example, "I was like... an' she was like.... an' 'e was like .... "
  5. 5
Never say, "here you are". Instead : "'ere you go !"[2]
  6. 6
Never issue an invitation, to a meeting. It's an invite to a meet, innit ![3]
  7. 7
Add 'like,' 'well' and 'proper' into your sentences. for example: "That were a well good lesson! Ms________ is a proper good teacher, like!" This will make you sound natural.
  8. 8
Don't go round shouting 'That were proper good innit bruv!' This will make you look fake and stupid. Instead, try out one new word at a time.[4]
  9. 9
Stop pronouncing 'h'. Aitches are to be dropped (this has no chav status in North/Midlands, where it's normal). [5] But when saying the letter aitch, pronounce it "haitch" (ditto)
  10. 10
Be casual! Don't act like you're trying too hard!

It doesn't matter what your nationality is, if you practice and get a voice coach, you can do it.

Warnings

  • People may not like the new way you speak. Only make the change if you have thick skin and can stick up for yourself!

  • Don't put anybody down! Always be nice, just say it in a different way!

  • Because the word "chav" is often used as an insult, be mindful of how associating certain behaviors with a "chavvy" personality may be perceived by others.

  • Swearing is proper chavvy, but it isn't pleasant. Don't use bad language! Especially around younger children.
