Installing a master link on roller chain is a straightforward process. After following this guide, you will be riding your go kart, bike, or motorcycle with confidence, having installed the retaining clip correctly!
Steps
-
1Align the roller chain ends on the sprocket.[1]
-
2Install the plate and pin assembly. Push the assembly through both ends of the roller chain. Install the assembly so the grooved ends of the pins face outward.[2]Advertisement
-
3Install the master link plate. The non-pin plate will go on the outside of the master link assembly.[3]
-
4Install the spring clip. First make sure the closed end of the spring clip will be at the head of chain travel, and the open end of the clip will trail the head end. Place the spring clip over the grooves in the pins, then use a flat head screwdriver to push the clip into place. You will hear a click when it snaps into place.
-
5You're done! Now go test out your newly assembled chain![4]
