Pinterest for Teachers

Pinterest is a photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as interests and hobbies.

Key Points

    • Pinterest users can upload, save, sort and manage images, known as pins, and other media content (e.g. videos) through collections known as pinboards.
    • Pinterest can be an effective tool for teachers to plan lessons. For example, pinboards can be used to design lesson plans, classroom decor, and a space in which teachers can pin sites for later referral.
    • As Pinterest is shared among users, teachers can refer to each others' pinboards for inspiration and ideas about classroom learning and lesson plans.
    • Pinterest can also be helpful for teachers who want to foster collaboration and creativity among their students, as pinboards can be a way for students to organize sources, collaborate on projects, and express their creativity in visual form.

Full Text

Pinterest is a pinboard-style photo-sharing website that allows users to create and manage theme-based image collections such as events, interests, and hobbies. Users can browse other pinboards for images, "re-pin" images to their own pinboards, or "like" photos.

Pinterest users can upload, save, sort and manage images, known as pins, and other media content (e.g. videos) through collections known as pinboards. Pinterest acts as a personalized media platform, whereby users' content and the content of others can be browsed on the main page. A "board" is where the user's pins are located, and users can have several boards for various items. A "pin" is an image that has either been uploaded or linked from a website. Once users create boards and add pins, other users can "repin", meaning that they can "pin" one user's image to their boards as well. Once the user has set up their account and boards, they can browse, comment, and like other "pins. " Pinterest is therefore a collaborative social media website that can be a useful tool for teachers in the classroom.

Specifically, Pinterest can be an effective tool for teachers to plan lessons, as shown in . For example, pinboards can be used to design lesson plans, classroom decor, and a space in which teachers can pin sites for later referral. As Pinterest is shared among users, teachers can refer to each others' pinboards for inspiration and ideas about classroom learning and lesson plans. Pinterest can also be helpful for teachers who want to foster collaboration and creativity among their students, as pinboards can be a way for students to organize sources, collaborate on projects, and express their creativity in visual form.
