Ever wish you could whip up a cappuccino without all the hassle of long brews and expensive machines? Thankfully, you can easily fix yourself a cup with a variety of shortcuts! Use the Indian method of beating instant coffee granules with sugar and water before adding heated milk. Or simply shake up some heated milk in a jar and add it your already-made cup of instant brew. If that’s too much work, you can even make a readymade mix that just needs boiled water to serve.
Ingredients
Instant Coffee with Shaken Milk: (makes 1 serving)
- 1 to 2 teaspoons instant coffee granules
- 1 cup water (237 ml)
- Sugar to taste
- Milk to taste
Indian Cappuccino:

- 1.5 teaspoons instant coffee granules
- ¾ to 1 tablespoon sugar
- ½ to ¾ teaspoon water
- 1 cup milk (237 ml)
Premade Mix:
(makes 24 servings)
- 1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer (86 g)
- 1 cup instant chocolate drink mix (86 g)
- ¾ cup instant coffee granules (65 g)
- ½ cup sugar (100 g)
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Shaking Milk to Make a Froth

1Make your coffee.[1] Boil 1 cup (237 ml) of water in a kettle, pot, or microwave. For the recommended measurement of instant coffee, refer to your particular brand’s directions. But generally, mix the boiled water in a mug with 1 to 2 teaspoons of coffee granules. Add your desired amount of sugar.
- Depending on the size of your mug, the amount of milk you wish to add, and your own personal tastes, reduce the amount of coffee and/or water as needed.

2Heat your milk. Pour your desired amount of milk into a microwave-safe dish or a small pot. Heat it until it reaches a boil.[2] Remove from heat once it begins to bubble and rise.[3]
- Times may vary depending on the amount of milk used and your microwave. Generally, it should take less than a minute.

3Froth your milk. Transfer your milk into a sealable jar or similar container. Use one large enough so that the milk only fills it halfway at most. Seal the container tightly to avoid spills and scalds. Then shake the container hard for twenty seconds or until a froth forms.[4]

Making Indian Cappuccino

1Make your coffee mix. While the milk heats, make your mix. Combine 1.5 teaspoons of instant coffee with ¾ to 1 tablespoon of sugar in a coffee mug. Then add ½ to a ¾ teaspoon of water. Beat the mix with a spoon for about five minutes, until it turns light brown.
- If you have instant espresso, try substituting a ½ teaspoon of the regular coffee with a ½ teaspoon of espresso.

2Heat the milk. Pour 1 cup (237 ml) of milk into a pot. Set the pot on a burner. Turn the burner to medium-high. Wait for it to bubble and rise.[7] Alternately, use a microwave. If you do, keep an eye on it and remove the milk as soon as it reaches a boil.

3Add the heated milk. Pour it into your cup. Then stir to mix and work up a froth. Sprinkle some coffee granules over the froth if desired, and enjoy![8]
Using a Premade Mix and Water

1Make your mix. Use a medium-sized mixing bowl. Or, to reduce the number of dishes to wash later, simply add and combine the ingredients directly in a sealable container. Stir the following together:[9]

- ¾ cup instant coffee granules (65 g)
