This wikiHow teaches you how to search for a location on Google Maps using coordinates. This is useful if you are provided coordinates for a place, but do not know the name.

Steps

    Open Google Maps. If you're using a smartphone or tablet, look for a colorful pin icon on a white background. If you're using a computer, go to https://maps.google.com/ on a browser.

    Enter the coordinates of the location you want to find. Copy and paste the coordinates from another place, such as a web page or email, or type in the coordinates.
    • Some accepted formats, for example, are 45°36'21.96"S, 167°21'38.88"E, or -45.6061,167.3608[1] .
    • Find the degree symbol on Android by tapping through the pages on the symbols keyboard (toggle the symbols/ABC tab, then tap 1/2 to access more symbols.
    • The degree symbol on iOS can be accessed by tapping and holding 0 (zero) and selecting the degree symbol.
    • Hold Alt+0+1+7+6 on Windows, or Shift+ Option+8 on Mac, to get the degree symbol.

    Tap Search in the bottom right or hit Enter on a computer. The coordinate location will appear.
    • If the coordinates match exactly to a known location, the location's name will appear.
    • Pinch the screen in to zoom out and see what is nearby on phone or tablet. On a computer, pinch in on your mousepad or click - (zoom out) in the bottom right to zoom out.
    • Tap or click Directions to get directions to the destination.
