How to Cosplay As Isabela from Encanto

Get Isabela's hair. At the end of the movie, she has black, long, and wavy hair with a streak of turquoise in it. The hair's multicolored, as she finally shows her true personality. Instead of being perfect and beautiful all the time, she embraces all parts of her personality, including imperfections. If you don't have wavy hair, try to make it wavy. If you don't have black hair, try to dye your hair or purchase a black, long, wavy-haired wig. Then, dye a part of your hair turquoise.

Do Isabela's makeup. In the movie, she wears makeup. Try to go with a bit of black mascara, like she does in the movie. Then, apply dark pink blush. Lastly, wear some purple lipstick. Apply dark purple lipstick. Don't wear bright colors such as neon red or pink.

Wear Isabela's dress. At the end of the movie, she wears a multicolored flowy dress adorned with a few flowers. Her dress has flowers because her power is to grow flowers and plants. It's multicolored, as she finally shows her true personality. Instead of being perfect and beautiful all the time, she embraces all parts of her personality, including the imperfections. You may want to purchase a dress made in this style, or create your own.

• To make your own, get an indigo dress, paint it with colored splatters everywhere (of any color - yellow, red, green, blue, etc.), and put a few flowers on the waist and chest of the dress.

Wear Isabela's accessories. She has many nice accessories that are a part of her outfit.

• In the movie, Isabela wears purple diamond earrings. Try to obtain a pair of purple, diamond earrings. Get clip-on earrings if you aren't ready to pierce your ears or get regular ones if your ears are already pierced.
• Wear an orange flower clip in your hair. If you don't have an orange flower clip, glue an orange fabric/felt flower (or a real one) onto a hair clip.

Be yourself. This sounds cliche to non-Encanto fans, but it is a true and important concept of life. In the movie, Isabela is portrayed as a perfect girl at first. She talks nicely, behaves well, and makes beautiful flowers and plants. But at the end of the movie, she says that she was pressured to behave perfectly. She hides her weaknesses and insecurities to become the perfect "golden child" everyone wants her to be. This is physically shown when she makes an "imperfect plant", instead of the beautiful and colorful flowers she usually makes.

• Don't be pressured to give up on something you really like and enjoy. If you enjoy painting, don't listen to people who tell you that it's a bad hobby and you need to give it up. If it doesn't interfere with your job, grades at school, and relationships with friends and family, you don't need to give it up.
• Similarly, don't be pressured to get into the best high school or get the best grades. You are yourself after all, and you aren't some sort of perfect robot genius. Humans tend to make mistakes when they are stressed, tired, or just unhappy.
• Don't be pressured to do dangerous or unethical things. Don't listen to people who tell you to steal, drink underage, gamble, do drugs, vandalize the school, etc. These things may be against the law, or at least banned in your school or area. This harms your reputation, and others aren't likely to trust you after doing this.

Have an interest in plants. Since you can't actually conjure plants with each step like Isabela does in the movie, try to have an interest in botany and/or nature.

• Go outside on a nature walk in the park and see what plants and flowers you can find.
• Go online and research some familiar and unknown plants.
• Read a book about plant parts, photosynthesis, and all of a plant's functions.
• Grow some flowers in your backyard or garden. Some plants are easier to maintain, while some need more maintenance and care. See which ones you like best, and are well suited to your environment.

Embrace Colombian culture. The movie is set in Colombia, a South American country. This country has a mix of many different cultures, starting from the Spanish colonization of it in the 16th century.

• There are many references of Colombian culture in the movie. For example, when Isabela complains of having to be perfect all the time while singing the song What Can I Do?, her dress transforms to include the Colombian flag colors - red, yellow, and blue. The song itself is also inspired by 90s Colombian music (confirmed by Lin Manuel-Miranda). Isabela's dress also contains Colombia's national flower - the orchid. The inspiration for her dress was from bambuco (a type of Colombian music genre) dancers' dresses.
• Experience the culture by eating Colombian foods (e.g. Bandeja Paisa, Colombian arepas), dancing Colombian dances (e.g. cumbia), learning Spanish, etc.
