Examples of Theses in the following topics:

  • World Religions and Religious History

    • Traditionally, these have been considered world religions due to their size and/or influence on society.
    • A detailed description of these religions is beyond the scope of this chapter.
    • One note is, however, in order concerning these religious groups.
    • The classification of these groups as world religions is, like all classifications, artificial.
    • Finally, while four of these religious groups are very populous, Judaism is not.
  • Compounds Having Two or More Chiral Centers

    • Since the properties of these compounds (see below) are significantly different, they cannot be enantiomers.
    • How, then, are we to classify these isomers and others like them?
    • Since these two compounds are optically active, each must have an enantiomer.
    • These are shown in the following illustration, together with the assignments that have been made on the basis of chemical interconversions.
    • As a general rule, a structure having n chiral centers will have 2n possible combinations of these centers.
  • CLASSIFICATION OF SOUNDS

    • Of these,—
    • These are confined almost exclusively to words derived from the Greek, and were equivalent to p + h, t + h, c + h, i.e. to the corresponding voiceless mutes with a following breath, as in Eng. loop-hole, hot-house, block-house.
    • These were voiced.
    • These were voiceless.
    • Of these, x was equivalent to cs, while the equivalence of z is uncertain.
